Normally, I wait for movie reviews, before I decide to spend my hard earned money on watching a movie in a cinema hall (does anyone use this term now?) But this time, we wanted to be amongst the review generators (!!) for a movie, so bought the tickets of the movie "Ready" beforehand.
We did carry the pop corns and nachos inside the hall (the security guard took away my chewing gums!) but we left our brain behind.... at our home. Yeah, u really have to leave your brains behind when you are heading to watch a Masala Bollywood Movie. For ages, I kept away from movies for this very reason... but now at 36...... you want to be in sync with the world around and more importantly you want to enjoy life. That's the very reason, I'm always game for fun and outings.
Salman Khan starrer "Ready" (well, it actually was, with Salman being in most of the shots of the movie!!) was an average movie for me. Reason? Read on...
First, if u want the audience to not to think, or use logic in the events of the movie, the idiocy of the story line, the monotony of the Indian family drama thing...... then please for God's sake don't make them THINK and REMEMBER facts of your movie. Just let the audience chill.
Second, why can't we ever think beyond love, love triangles, family, family feuds, and evergreen "Hum sath sath hain" family drama?? I can't believe it, but "Ready" was all about it.
Third, alright, Salman is the hero of the movie, but boy leave the audience for a while, let them want to see you, let them wait for you for a few seconds. You don't have to hover over the big screen all the time (and that too with your shirt on!!!)
As for Asin, I find her very very ordinary in looks, a girl next door. Or may be a girl like that was needed for the movie, because it was a Salman's movie. I hated the typical scene of a morning when this girl (settled in phoran!) wakes up early, and does a Pooja- Arti , much to the joint family's delight. Phew! where does it happen apart from our Hindi Movies?!
Overall, an OK movie, one time watch, not really a paisa vasool for me. Kids will enjoy it a lot, my sons are not complaining!
Lastly, I'm still not able to figure out why they named it "READY" ???? Ready for a no- brainer???!!!

Post after a long time.
These days, word “theatre” has been replaced by — “PDA in
Dark.”
Sallu was
planning “Ready” to break all the preset records. Beside Hindi cinema is still
smitten by family dramas. However, I avoid
subjecting myself to such tantrums. Anime, Japanese/Korean Dramas works super
awesome for me.
Yikes! Thanks for this review. I'm gonna avoid this movie. I dont particularly care for salmaan khan anyway. I saw The King's Speech this weekend and what a treat it was.
Salman was the only reason to watch this movie. Nice review ..I plan to do one on my blog soon too..Stay tuned for that!:D
The movie will become a hit too despite being a no brainer..
Perhaps, they are asking the viewers that are they ready for more mindless movies. Probably they might plan a sequel depending on the reviews and might even name it "Get". Others to follow might be Set and Go. :P
Cheers,
Blasphemous Aesthete
:D Good guess!!
hmm i have doubts about this being a hit. Let's see.
Thanks... will read ur take UB
U're welcome Deepa. I too wish to see King's Speech.
Hey Prateek! Yeah this movie shook me enough to write!
Ah, tks for telling the new definition of theatre!!
'Ready' seems to be made to encash the success of 'Dabang'. I don't think it will work. U need to have a story after all!
wow, u got some great taste! So where do u watch this stuff?
tk cr
I download them. Do you want? :P
They are great though.
A hit or a miss.. i dont know.. but .. i saw this movie on a pirated CD... and thats all it is worth...! but.. i disagree with you with regard to what you said about Asin.. here is one actress who stands firm.. in front of a rampaging Salman.. She is able to hold her forte.. she did that in Ghajini too.. took the screen presence from none less than Aamir Khan.. and does a reasonably good job in stealing the thunder from Salman Khan too.. She is a performer.. she can act.. and she doesn't do much the meaningless stuff that normally the bollywood ladies indulge in... A la Sushmita Sen in the making perhaps..
Don't agree with you Prateek...with your comment.. PDA in the dark.. that was essentially in a bad taste.. !!! it was a generalization done without much of a thought for people who throng to a cineplex to watch a movie...!!!
and this movie has taken absurdity to a new level - not that I didn't enjoy the movie. But all that mismatch of locations without rationale !!!
I wonder about it too...Imagine Dabangg getting a national award!
I like your blog and enjoy reading it. Epecialy liked your posts Don't be shy know your breasts and Indian obsession with Fair skin. BTW I made a reference to your post (and linked your blog) on skin colour in my recent post on Body Image.
Hi Prathama! Welcome here :) Am so glad to know that u like my blog.
Thanks a ton for the reference u made in ur post... am truly happy for that :) I read ur post and then cudn't stop writing a looong comment after that! Excellent post dear!
stay in touch!
When Dabangg got the National Award for Best popular film.... that really surprised ..... but it seems that's going to be the trend now. We mustn't forget who makes such movies popular apart from the educated urban ppl.
Shafeeq, we didn't have to use our mind... remember?!!
Only time can tell, hit or miss!!
I don't agree with ur comment on Asin. If u remember the role in Gajni, Amir had to be floored by the simplicity of the girl, so she had to be a simple girl but a chatter box, with Amir being spell bound with her all the time. Here in Ready too, her role needed her to have an upper hand... becoz she had to play the role of girl, who improves this brash boy (Salman).
So, its just the role offered to her that makes her grab our attention and not the acting or something. She seems to be just an actress... with normal looks....she has to go a long way to break the image of being street smart that she has created till now.
Restless,
LOL.. That is why whenever I do see a Bollywood movie or even some of our popular serials I shut my think tank, or whatever is still left intact. Idea is just to enjoy those few moments without analysing the motive or sanity of it's makers.
Take care
Tell me through email Prateek.
Awesome review!
I have no plans of going for this one and this review cements the decision.
I too keep my mind closed .....but this movie had so many things to remember- who is whose brother? who wants to marry whose daughter?? blah blah..... huff I was yawning by the later half of the movie!!!
And also, let me share, my post was ready in my mind in the movie hall itself!!!
Deboshree, i honestly cannot recommend it to anyone, even a kid!!
salman movie!! I stay away from them :)
