I spent my last weekend at Nainital, the 'Lake District' of India. Nainital is headquarter of Nainital District. It is also divisional Headquarter of Kumaon Division of Uttarakhand State of India. The most prominent of all the lakes of the 'Naini' Lake which is in the shape of a human eye. The lake is surrounded by hills and makes a beautiful, picture perfect view.
An important mythological reference to Nainital is as one of 64 ‘Shakti Peeths’.These centres were created wherever parts of charred body of Sati fell ,when Lord Shiva was carrying around her corpse in grief .It is said that the left eye (Nain) of Sati fell here and this gave rise to patron deity of town Nainital . It is said that the lake is formed in the emerald eye shape . Naina Devi temple is located at the northern end of the lake . Thus name of Nainital derivated from Naina and the tal (Lake).

The quacking duck. The filth that surrounded was appalling. |

Clicked this pic at a place called 'Mangoli' while returning from Nainital. This huge tree seems to have fallen on the nearby hut due to strong winds. I was amazed to see how this humble hut to withstand the heavy weight of the tree. |

a sense of calm envelopes me when i visit small towns and places far removed from the daily hustle and bustle of cities. the pictures of the lake are beautiful.. i feel placid just looking at them. :)
beautiful :)
Ah! These pictures
reminded me of my vacations at Namital. However, it has been a while. Tals,
mountains, Beas, boating, snowfall, peaks covered with clouds, temples, golf
course. Sheer bliss.
Hey RS...your pictures totally took me to Nainital itself!! Such unspoilt nature isnt' it..
PS: am back now...and hoping to read all those hundreds of unread posts soon :)
Hope all is well your side...I saw ur mail, but haven't replied yet...will do soon!
Well, Nainital indeed is amazing.. but i think not anymore... it lost its charm and glory to its lesser known cousins like Naukuchiatal and Bhimtal which are two other 'Lake Districts' higher up than nainital. These places are still virgin and untouched by crowd and pollution. Naukuchiatal is one place which beckons one again and again and I, too, will only happy to go there again... The best thing with these two places are that they are still easy on the pocket and one wont find it difficult to find an accommodation even in the peak season, unlike Nainital. The Lake in Naukuchiatal has nine corners, and the view of the all the nine corners of the lake is said to bring 'Nirvana' to the eye. Closer to Naukuchiatal is another lake district called Bhimtal, which again has a story to tell, dating back to Mahabharatha days.
Well, coming back to Nainital, I liked the place when i visited it some six seven years, the thing that i still remember is the rope car drive which took me up for an amazing view of the Nanda Devi Peak. The ride cost only 50 bucks (I dont know whether inflation touched this thing too) it is more than worth it. We have done rope cars at other places too, but the view that this one gives, is quite amazing.
maassssssttttttttt ekdum !!!! :) :)
all the photo collections are really beautiful. Each and every photo taken form different stages. Every one life all are awaiting for Boat riding. above ride is very nice one. I miss this opportunity.

The cottage is situated on the Ayarpatta hill and is just above Jim Corbett’s house which is now owned by the Dalmia family. The upper mall is along side. Close by is Sherwood College. Raj Bhawan is around two kilometers away. Aurobindo ashram is around one and a half km away. Three km away is Barapathar on the Nainital – Kaladungi road where rock climbing training facility is available. Around 6 km away is Kilbury which offers wonderful vistas of the Himalayan ranges.
Things to see and do in Nainital
Many people visiting us hardly go down to the town and the Mall road which is around 1.5 km away. There are wonderful walking trails around the cottage, chief among them the picturesque walk to Tiffin Top which has a meadow and also offers a panoramic view point called Dorothy’s Seat. It is also possible to play a game of golf at the mini golf course alongside the Raj Bhawan which is quite adventurous due to the undulations. You also have the option to just laze around or sit around a bonfire.
